Short version

We collect the minimum data needed to run this website (comments, security, basic analytics, and email sign-ups if you choose). You can request a copy or deletion of your data at any time.

What we collect and why

Comments. When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the form, your IP address and browser user-agent to help spam detection. An anonymised string made from your email (a hash) may be sent to Gravatar to see if you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/
. After approval, your profile image is visible next to your comment.

Media uploads. If you upload images, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.

Cookies.

If you comment, you may opt-in to save your name, email and website in cookies so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. These last for up to 1 year.

We set a temporary cookie on the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies; it contains no personal data and is deleted when you close the browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login and screen display choices. Login cookies last 2 days (or 2 weeks if you choose “Remember me”); screen options last 1 year. Logging out removes login cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie (with the post ID) may be stored for 1 day.

Embedded content. Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves just as if you visited the other website and may set cookies, collect data, and track your interaction—especially if you’re logged in to that service.

Security & spam protection. Visitor comments may be checked by an automated spam-detection service (e.g., Akismet) and basic security tools. This typically involves processing IP addresses and user-agent strings.

Email sign-ups (optional). If you subscribe, we store your email address and your consent to receive emails. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in our emails or by contacting us.

How long we keep data

Comments (and their metadata) are kept indefinitely so we can recognise and approve follow-ups automatically.

User accounts. If you create an account, we store the personal information you provide in your profile. You can see, edit, or delete your information at any time (except your username). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.

Technical logs (security, error logs) are kept for a limited time for security and performance.

Who we share data with

Password reset. If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email for security.

Vendors/Processors. We use reputable hosting, security, and email providers who process data on our behalf under data-processing agreements. We do not sell personal data.

Your rights (GDPR/EU)

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; and to data portability. You can withdraw consent at any time (for example, email marketing).

Where your data is processed

Our site is hosted in the EU/EEA (or with providers offering adequate safeguards). Some services may process data outside the EU under appropriate legal mechanisms (e.g., SCCs).

Children

This site is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices or for legal reasons. We’ll post the new policy here and update the “Last updated” date.

All content on the Site—text, images, audio, video, graphics, and design—is owned by Scandinavian Gardens or our licensors, unless stated otherwise. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute content without prior written permission, except for personal, non-commercial use with proper attribution.

2. User Contributions (e.g., comments)

If you post comments or other material, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to display that content on the Site and in our communications related to the Site. You remain responsible for your submissions and warrant that you own or have rights to them.

3. Acceptable Use

Do not use the Site to post or transmit anything unlawful, defamatory, infringing, hateful, harassing, or harmful; to attempt to breach security; or to interfere with the Site’s operation. We may moderate, edit, or remove content and suspend access at our discretion.

If you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorised use.

5. Links & Third-Party Services

The Site may include links or embedded content from third parties. We are not responsible for their content, policies or practices. Your use of those services is governed by their terms.

Content is for informational and educational purposes only. Garden advice, field guides and stories are provided “as is” and without warranties. Always assess local conditions before acting on any guidance.

7. Disclaimers & Liability

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties and will not be liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site. Our aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Site will not exceed EUR 50.

8. Digital Products (if applicable)

If we offer paid digital products (e.g., e-books, Field Guides), purchases are for personal, non-transferable use. Unless required by law, digital purchases are non-refundable. All applicable taxes are the buyer’s responsibility.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Danish courts, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
